The
Panax Ginseng grows in the Northern Hemisphere in eastern Asia
(mostly northern China, Korea, and eastern Siberia), typically
in cooler climates. The English word ginseng derives from the
Chinese term rénshen, literally "man root; the botanical/genus
name Panax means "all-heal" in Greek, sharing the same
origin as "panacea," and was applied to this genus because
Linnaeus was aware of its wide use in Chinese medicine as a muscle
relaxant. Ginseng root is widely acknowledged as one of the oldest
and most valuable herbal medicines. This plant has been used for
over 2000 years in Chinese medicine as an energy tonic. There
are several types, including Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng) and
Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus). Korean ginseng
is used in heart disease, to lower blood sugar levels in type
2 diabetes, and for erectile dysfunction. Eleuthero Ginseng root,
also known as Eleuthero Root or Siberian Ginseng Root, enhances
physical and mental vitality and endurance.
